2009 Why might SolidWorks 2010 (or SolidWorks Explorer 2010) not start after rebooting the computer?

This is a known issue that only appears under the following conditions:0 @& e" d: W; k' q4 k8 U0 d3 q+ p
8 E5 p' @' X# \0 C6 K, O! o
Microsoft Windows® XP 32-bit + specific Data Execution Prevention (DEP) settings.
0 `0 x$ K( u3 ~% M+ LThe problem has been submitted to the SolidWorks Development team with the SPR below:
7 j1 h2 Z7 p9 WSPR 524232: SolidWorks 2010 no longer starts after the computer has been restarted. Note that using another user account to start SolidWorks via Run As allows SolidWorks to start until next reboot...# T3 }4 j5 [8 {4 y* ]
3 o" O; @: I+ K' c6 X0 v nThe workaround to this is as follows:
7 W& K, x! u* v- X$ V1. Right Mouse Button on My Computer and select Properties3 n3 K7 @, E" s$ Y* g: Q$ _& v
2. On the Advanced tab>Performance>click Settings H4 y$ T: _9 O" Q$ e& g: C. K1 } P! ~
3. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab and most likely the setting "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" will be active
6 ?. Q) w0 n1 W2 O* `" ^4. In the exception list see if Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) is listed. If it is, then select it and choose to Remove it from the list

When doing Step 3 above if the user currently has the option "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" active, then do these alternate steps:7 S- q9 l1 k% U5 ]
4. Toggle the other DEP option on so the list of possibly previously specified exceptions can be accessed$ r$ R/ T4 b" }( e
5. If Windows Explorer is in that exceptions list, then do the following process:
" z- u* r6 S4 J! B$ c a. Remove Windows Explorer from the list
; Z" \* C: U# y9 _ b. Reboot% `! x8 Q/ e3 C' }+ x0 g
c. Go back in the DEP interface again and set the option back to “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"+ \) v. ?7 e$ q, i8 U+ M
d. Reboot once more. 7 E e9 [9 E' `7 l K* n
) T" T! t9 m- F( C5 v8 D
