SPECIAL NOTICE — CODE CASE 2199 — 2.25Cr-1.6W-VCb

In April 2009, ASME issued a Special Notice concerning
$ n4 X" `0 S3 c. u* |4 E( tthe use of Code Case 2199, 2199-1, 2199-2, and 2199-3. These
6 ~. `6 j5 {8 _6 GCases address the use of 2.25Cr-1.6W-V-Cb (Grade 23) material7 b, X4 j1 T( V6 X9 c+ U/ o
for Section I applications. Table 1 of Code Case 2199-3 was
3 @$ M; \( N& P% Srevised to ensure adequate material hardenability and to modify _9 }# S/ ]* {
subparagraph (b) to clarify hardness testing requirement. For
& v; T) e+ @: _: ETable 1, the maximum amount of N was reduced, the minimum- z. |- G+ x% G
amount of B was increased, a limit on Ni was added, a Ti
- z* L6 C/ O4 Y" t) Q! |; trequirement was added and a Ti to N ratio was added. An6 \& H8 X. v% A' c; d% a9 E% W$ m( d
exemption to the Ti:N ratio was included based on hardness test; {& z9 T% x# z7 J" b
results from fully hardened material. Sub-paragraph (b) was

hardness limit would be invoked. Manufacturers are cautioned

insofar as material produced to earlier revisions of the Case

specified in the Code Case, but it may not achieve the specified! ~" _* U+ e# h2 b" T

A Special Notice was issued by ASME stating that Code Case
