       Delivery delays at 21st Century Shipbuilding have led to a Greek owner cancelling a contract.

Laskaridis Shipping of Greece has cancelled a handysize bulker at the South Korean yard.

3 h* f' k6 j! z6 |Commercial director Yiannis Lagarias confirms Laskaridis cancelled the 34,000-dwt Nireas in May, when the ship was due for delivery.

# X! ]  K3 I0 E9 s1 x% tLagarias says the yard was behind schedule on the bulker, Hull No 1002, and 21st has since sold it on to other interests.

Laskaridis booked the ship as part of a three-vessel series in 2008 for $36m each.

Lagarias says the price was negotiated down to $29m per ship once it was clear there would be delays.

# l. \% V3 g1 R1 e$ B3 X& A' [In the end, Cebi Denizcilik ve Ticaret of Turkey bought the ship for a reported $26m, renaming it Minanur Cebi 1, for slightly more than Laskaridis’s offer. Delivery is now set for July.

The second ship in the series, Hull No 1003, is due for delivery by early July.

Lagarias says this ship will also not meet its delivery deadline and will be cancelled. Cebi is understood to snap up this bulker as well.
