Delivery delays at 21st Century Shipbuilding have led to a Greek owner cancelling a contract.

Laskaridis Shipping of Greece has cancelled a handysize bulker at the South Korean yard. 7 y1 e" p/ D; O0 o8 [/ \& C
: H5 Z6 b* F- X0 c/ ICommercial director Yiannis Lagarias confirms Laskaridis cancelled the 34,000-dwt Nireas in May, when the ship was due for delivery. 1 u, A7 {( O9 B* m9 d4 w
X2 t) Z w5 S/ \, KLagarias says the yard was behind schedule on the bulker, Hull No 1002, and 21st has since sold it on to other interests.

Laskaridis booked the ship as part of a three-vessel series in 2008 for $36m each. ! z- C( r9 A! F- M F1 S

Lagarias says the price was negotiated down to $29m per ship once it was clear there would be delays.
