A project is a unique effort to introduce or produce a new product or service conforming to certain

0 L5 G. }" Z7 n0 Wtime, cost, human resources, and asset limits. Projects are said to be similar to the mating of two elephants:% U( v6 O& [3 e+ }% {
They start at a very high level with lots of noise and activity, but it takes forever for anything to materialize!, t0 G5 U' }& w9 s$ n, S
A more serious definition is that a project is a well-organized development of an end product that had a

Project management is the discipline that relates all of those words that you thought of that apply to project.- g* G! C" r1 L0 g
This discipline cultivates the expertise to plan, monitor, track, and manage the people, the time, the budget,+ z; ? z- W# g% N1 c' a
and the quality of the work on projects. Project management fulfills two purposes: (1) It provides the3 M2 i6 d9 v! V1 }$ L
technical and business documentation to communicate the plan and, subsequently, the status that facilitates
' w( I2 M( A% V1 @! c. ocomparison of the plan against actual performance, and (2) it supports the development of the managerial0 i, {8 G" Y9 ?8 u7 Q( Z
skills to facilitate better management of the people and their project(s). Project management is a proactive
+ T* l1 p( g) p5 ustyle of management. Negotiation techniques and good communication and analytical skills are integral parts
: e, @2 m9 H* ^- \: v4 a6 s; x' H7 pof this approach. Another key ingredient is the evaluation of performance against those objectives. Central to: _6 I& P! ~& k/ _5 V* Q3 b3 I
this management style is the application of high standards of quality to the project work.
