Preface
; t, K) Q9 V6 i+ Q# RThis book is designed as a handbook with some basic information on polymeric composite8 a3 A1 y- _, K [
fabrication. It is prepared by considering beginners as well as technical personnel already8 J. e/ s8 t3 J o2 P
working in this area. For this reason, it contains basic principles as well as an up-todate- c7 H6 M# u3 H2 K6 j
information on various aspects, including applications.5 K2 k$ t5 @/ P2 ]/ w
The book has seven chapters. Each of these were prepared by a group of experts from' B" ^+ h: e% |2 c9 r, t6 U' h
different parts of the world. The first chapter, the introduction, gives some definitions
$ ^6 ^7 }, p" b6 H9 Wand classifications with some depth on the matrices and reinforcements for all types of
# J0 B0 [! f- Q4 K* s( Kcomposite structures, including polymeric, metallic and ceramic matrix composites. More" H, n, \! k% A
detailed information about constituent materials (matrices and reinforcements) is provided9 Z8 j+ K! t( ?- V! c( m
in chapter 2. Different processing techniques of polymer composites are discussed in the, ]% q! n4 ]! |
following chapters, briefly: open mould (in Chapter 3) and closed mould (matched die)2 u0 |# O" X6 i1 M
processes, filament winding (Chapter 4) and pultrusion (Chapter 5). The book ends with
( Z" D+ v' _( H) P1 R. d. K- O- I$ ethe machining and joining processes commonly used for polymer composite structures.1 m) U, p$ x6 d& ]( P
