2009 Why might SolidWorks 2010 (or SolidWorks Explorer 2010) not start after rebooting the computer?2 D6 j1 ^4 Y8 T+ s. g5 M B$ x

) r6 O3 k3 P3 w, f. yMicrosoft Windows® XP 32-bit + specific Data Execution Prevention (DEP) settings.8 _0 b) X: z- K z( q
The problem has been submitted to the SolidWorks Development team with the SPR below:
; v) O3 n7 A( v: G) JSPR 524232: SolidWorks 2010 no longer starts after the computer has been restarted. Note that using another user account to start SolidWorks via Run As allows SolidWorks to start until next reboot...

0 _5 o+ W7 y4 n0 @The workaround to this is as follows:+ s/ s% t0 m+ n4 \: h* R
1. Right Mouse Button on My Computer and select Properties! n( q0 S, l5 A; ?. a& T- W+ U+ W- F
2. On the Advanced tab>Performance>click Settings
. q1 |/ \8 P0 S7 t1 [3. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab and most likely the setting "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" will be active
: p& W7 r+ C% N7 t4. In the exception list see if Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) is listed. If it is, then select it and choose to Remove it from the list
2 H' h4 u1 X, q' w5. OK out of all settings windows and reboot.

When doing Step 3 above if the user currently has the option "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" active, then do these alternate steps:3 @6 N/ K# P9 y. l
4. Toggle the other DEP option on so the list of possibly previously specified exceptions can be accessed$ c4 {. R& f3 V) f& h8 k8 |2 F
5. If Windows Explorer is in that exceptions list, then do the following process:( Q) E! q! S% y f
a. Remove Windows Explorer from the list
8 w; G8 \& G- V5 U* s# t0 l b. Reboot
: l& x% b! Q) U, M- ]! Y c. Go back in the DEP interface again and set the option back to “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"2 C' m9 a7 @' z
d. Reboot once more.
