- A+ z* M- u& S7 S7 Z) KIn April 2009, ASME issued a Special Notice concerning
0 P( U h2 a! N- g, Ythe use of Code Case 2199, 2199-1, 2199-2, and 2199-3. These
8 e: c; z* s" _3 U8 \Cases address the use of 2.25Cr-1.6W-V-Cb (Grade 23) material; }& N5 m/ n) S- w# a# g
for Section I applications. Table 1 of Code Case 2199-3 was
; a3 d/ p# z5 Q/ [9 Urevised to ensure adequate material hardenability and to modify
* U9 U& W# ?5 _, T/ j s4 {. I9 isubparagraph (b) to clarify hardness testing requirement. For( v, f; ]: N2 G4 ] {
Table 1, the maximum amount of N was reduced, the minimum
/ f) {/ n) c# r. damount of B was increased, a limit on Ni was added, a Ti5 M, H' F, o5 {! e3 n) }" ~4 c8 E
requirement was added and a Ti to N ratio was added. An$ _/ o6 [1 k2 {+ o5 q: }- d
exemption to the Ti:N ratio was included based on hardness test) C: R! P8 m- g( E
results from fully hardened material. Sub-paragraph (b) was. u* B0 @! o, ?& D7 a
modified to clarify when in the processing order the maximum, }/ B$ D& y! W& E
hardness limit would be invoked. Manufacturers are cautioned3 b' n: c* }% R7 ~
that these revisions to Case 2199 have safety implications" w/ G" c s* o, r) n* s2 I
insofar as material produced to earlier revisions of the Case5 j9 S$ t2 s6 X+ s7 _, ?6 l
(2199-3, 2199-2, etc.) could meet the chemistry requirements8 W& H" Y* @& M# {! I2 R9 }$ U
specified in the Code Case, but it may not achieve the specified$ k4 [3 A& J, q. A) u! M
mechanical properties following the normalizing heat treatment.
9 B% m# C$ l% Y! k. ?A Special Notice was issued by ASME stating that Code Case
# `) W& v- y5 J' K2199-4 should now be used, and the use of Code Cases 2199,- X+ s3 V( ]4 C q
2199-1, 2199-2, 2199-3 should be discontinued immediately. A5 C# o0 `. H8 b2 h3 d, Q
