2009 Why might SolidWorks 2010 (or SolidWorks Explorer 2010) not start after rebooting the computer?

7 W# F3 E3 a% b6 DThis is a known issue that only appears under the following conditions:
! D" N/ z6 i0 }2 H, ?! ?; ^/ A H0 Z0 P) ~+ S8 z1 \1 V) C% @" F
Microsoft Windows® XP 32-bit + specific Data Execution Prevention (DEP) settings.0 o4 z3 b9 \$ g( r0 b. U
The problem has been submitted to the SolidWorks Development team with the SPR below:
7 v( E, r( }% P" `. g! V; uSPR 524232: SolidWorks 2010 no longer starts after the computer has been restarted. Note that using another user account to start SolidWorks via Run As allows SolidWorks to start until next reboot...$ W( y. T4 D& X3 Y* b# t* S
F" t: h0 v% {: W2 F% R
The workaround to this is as follows:
* ~; a0 f% M" a4 w8 K1 u8 ?1. Right Mouse Button on My Computer and select Properties
* h/ v N$ m9 t' D2. On the Advanced tab>Performance>click Settings
1 D. s' W7 O i3. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab and most likely the setting "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select" will be active: v+ F: Z7 G! C9 D2 A# D
4. In the exception list see if Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) is listed. If it is, then select it and choose to Remove it from the list: r! a, E6 |( ?# R: @
5. OK out of all settings windows and reboot.

Special case:
" q; O9 r; Z1 k2 ]9 s- QWhen doing Step 3 above if the user currently has the option "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" active, then do these alternate steps:# ^$ E. [5 E; l- a! {/ k7 E
4. Toggle the other DEP option on so the list of possibly previously specified exceptions can be accessed" C6 m2 g: O/ \ X, ]" L. A
5. If Windows Explorer is in that exceptions list, then do the following process:
: L+ D2 I, x& E8 Z( E- d a. Remove Windows Explorer from the list
0 w" U0 f, m$ D1 @6 U b. Reboot
9 ], [+ s& O2 f/ O3 F) U c. Go back in the DEP interface again and set the option back to “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"& P* J" A N# b3 X* H! J
d. Reboot once more.
