In April 2009, ASME issued a Special Notice concerning5 J! r0 q- r6 k- \1 Q( [* a
the use of Code Case 2199, 2199-1, 2199-2, and 2199-3. These8 `6 \0 C( q! e+ D. E* [0 [
Cases address the use of 2.25Cr-1.6W-V-Cb (Grade 23) material9 J# \9 \$ U6 Q( m
for Section I applications. Table 1 of Code Case 2199-3 was
]: k3 H' m3 t' m$ H5 k0 F* Frevised to ensure adequate material hardenability and to modify, z& T% P! Q3 h$ D1 E2 `6 Y) L
subparagraph (b) to clarify hardness testing requirement. For1 @/ @: i2 e" p& Z
Table 1, the maximum amount of N was reduced, the minimum
T7 ]. A; z$ f2 j5 F7 lamount of B was increased, a limit on Ni was added, a Ti
: }3 G7 Q! c5 t6 s, Srequirement was added and a Ti to N ratio was added. An) P$ a j) x; ?
exemption to the Ti:N ratio was included based on hardness test
* c: A* J6 B# q0 m6 H4 e1 zresults from fully hardened material. Sub-paragraph (b) was

hardness limit would be invoked. Manufacturers are cautioned; \8 W4 Q) r. t \& Y/ z
that these revisions to Case 2199 have safety implications
+ o0 Y( B! ^; [8 z4 xinsofar as material produced to earlier revisions of the Case) P+ j, u- P7 s: ~% G1 p0 R
(2199-3, 2199-2, etc.) could meet the chemistry requirements% L+ ]5 E3 t7 d K1 L* m3 z
specified in the Code Case, but it may not achieve the specified# Y5 t/ b1 t( _5 d# K3 e/ x
mechanical properties following the normalizing heat treatment.
& m+ s! F6 v+ S. MA Special Notice was issued by ASME stating that Code Case: g8 {! c* z, ? P0 x
2199-4 should now be used, and the use of Code Cases 2199,: d% `4 u2 w* T" a# G
