In April 2009, ASME issued a Special Notice concerning$ V- B- V/ w4 s
the use of Code Case 2199, 2199-1, 2199-2, and 2199-3. These/ S3 T3 l+ O( u3 X8 Y8 f5 F
Cases address the use of 2.25Cr-1.6W-V-Cb (Grade 23) material
+ i5 ~! n% [5 d2 l r* @0 Wfor Section I applications. Table 1 of Code Case 2199-3 was+ t; ]% C9 z f+ x2 Y
revised to ensure adequate material hardenability and to modify- H8 f& J2 _9 |% I9 `9 p9 ]
subparagraph (b) to clarify hardness testing requirement. For
: r5 I7 ^+ {7 g: FTable 1, the maximum amount of N was reduced, the minimum
8 Q) C! v* o, f- g! famount of B was increased, a limit on Ni was added, a Ti" O4 f' P& i: Z' b' J* }. K5 x0 ^: b1 i
requirement was added and a Ti to N ratio was added. An& T! G- ^- E3 m& g
exemption to the Ti:N ratio was included based on hardness test6 f# g8 l$ n4 d/ l
results from fully hardened material. Sub-paragraph (b) was
" V2 p t: W5 H$ c; k) J2 |4 tmodified to clarify when in the processing order the maximum4 K% h' n& h6 C, }, ] V8 x) j3 B8 s
hardness limit would be invoked. Manufacturers are cautioned

insofar as material produced to earlier revisions of the Case+ w7 T; I1 ~" V
(2199-3, 2199-2, etc.) could meet the chemistry requirements

2199-4 should now be used, and the use of Code Cases 2199,. V0 H: n% |3 q
